CITY OF PRINEVILLE RAILWAY

This line was created after the Oregon Trunk decided not to build to Prineville. The 18 mile railroad connected to the SP&S at Prineville Junction running East to the railroads namesake. At the height of the railroad they had crews working 24 hours a day switching customers and running to the jct to interchange traffic with the SP&S and UP.

The City of Prineville had a pair ALCO S-1 's  that made daily trip between Prineville and Prineville Junction. Due to the terrain and the power the trains usual were around 30 cars or so, mostly boxcars, some woodchip cars and an occasional tankcar. They also had a few interesting Cabooses, the 201 was Ex- Lehigh Valley Caboose and the 202 was a uniquely modified caboose that at one time had a side door. They also had an ex-UP coach that they operated on Fridays and weekends at the end of the train between Prineville and the Jct.
